Walk Description & Map
Not enough people to hire a coach and go to Weardale as had been planned so it was a local walk around Durham. Several old railway lines to the west of Durham have been converted to footpaths and along with a good network of paths and lanes between them make some nice walks. The ruins at Bearpark are what is left of the Prior of Durham's favourite country retreat. It was once a large manor house known as Beaurepaire (Beautiful resting place) which over time corrupted into Bearpark.
